  • You can become deficient in particular vitamins through inadequate food storage or cooking facilities
  • A balanced diet and healthy lifestyle is the optimum state everyone should aim for. Simply taking vitamin and mineral supplements while continuing to smoke and drink heavily, party every night and skip meals will not automatically create a healthy body.
  • Always read the directions for taking your supplements or ask at your pharmacy. Normally supplements work better when taken with food. Some nutritionists recommend breaking up the vitamins and taking them more regularly throughout the day to ensure they will be absorbed properly.
  • There are some vitamins that should not be taken in large doses. These include Vitamin A, D and B6. This is an area that should be discussed with your health care professional.
