| How it works |
 |
| Vitamin C provides relief of the symptoms of hay fever, relieves colds by reducing the severity and duration of symptoms such as coughs and sneezes. The antioxidant nutrients betacarotene, vitamins C and E, and zinc are all implicated in the immune response via a wide variety of mechanisms including cytokine production.
Echinacea has been extensively investigated and is known to have a variety of actions on the immune system, including elevation of serum white blood cell count (when numbers are low), promotion of non-specific T-cell activation (leading to a range of other activities including increased activity of natural killer cells and stimulating the release of interferon), enhancement of macrophage activity, as well as having antibacterial and antiviral properties.
This lower dose preparation is suitable for long term preventative use, however, for symptoms of acute infection, Blackmores Liquid Echinacea may provide more immediate relief. |
